Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15A v Watford Town on Mon 03 May 2010 at 4 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Watford Town won by 6 wickets
Match report
Despite the bank holiday sunshine this was a bitterly cold afternoon with a strong wind blowing across the Berkhamsted grounds, in fact strong enough to blow the scoreboard 30 yards up the hill. Despite that the 2 sides put on a good match with Watford just coming out on top.
Berkhamsted, with nine Under 14 players in their team, batted first and got off to a decent start but were undone by 2 quick run outs. After that the run rate slowed against good accurate bowling in particular from Najib (2 for 13) and Quint (1 for 12) and had it not been for 30 extras the score would have been much lower. In the end Berkhamsted finished on 83 off the 20 overs, Jacob Lewarne top scoring with a steady 14 not out.
Watfords innings also got off to a good start despite losing their opener to a blinding slip catch from Ethan Mackie off Jack Hunters bowling. Both Davis and Najib struck some excellent shots including a towering straight six from Najib. They looked to be cruising to an easy win when the home side struck with 3 quick wickets, 2 of which fell to Max Jenkinson who clean bowled 2 victims. Nick Williams also took a great catch. Just when it was looking like a close finish Kinsella sealed the game for Watford with 2 overs to spare with a quick 15 not out.
Berko were left to rue 16 wides and some dodgy running between the wickets but nevertheless this was a spirited performance with the side captained well by Will Holderness.
