Chorleywood v Berkhamsted Cricket Club U14 A on Fri 21 May 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Chorleywood won by 7 wickets
Match report
Sadly our first defeat of the season although it was a great game that could have been ours but for a few key mistakes.
We batted first on a very peculiar wicket where the ball barely got above ankle height at one end but bounced well at the other. This made life tricky for the openers and we stumbled to 18 for 2 off 8 overs, not a good start. Enter Matthew Hopkins who started with a huge 6 into the car park and then struck the ball cleanly on the way to a superb 51 not out. He was ably supported by Edward Butler-Caddle at the end (23 not out) which allowed us to finish on a very competitive 101.
As usual our opening bowlers Josh Roberts and Ethan Mackie kept it very tight and after 10 overs Chorleywood were just 37 so we were well in the hunt however CW have a very destructive batsman in Rose who can win a game in the blink of an eye. Perhaps the turning point was early in his innings when James Sidwell forced him into a lofted pull. James went for a catch but unfortunately the chance went down following which Rose took full advantage bludgeoning his way to a fine 50. Jacob Lewarne ran out Brooks with a fine throw but with an over to go they needed just 5 to win which they completed on the 4th ball.
Hopefully we can bounce back next week although with 2 tough fixtures and a depleted side due to exams it will not be easy!
