Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C v West Herts on Wed 12 May 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won BCC won by 2 runs
Match report
Another dramatic match for our U12B team who are fast become last ball specialists. This time they looked dead and buried but the phrase "catches wins matches" was never so true as the boys took 6 excellent catches resulting in a closely fought victory.
We batted first and it soon became apparant that James Wilton whilst in no trouble was struggling with a bat that hadnt been knocked in. This meant even his best shots went about 10 yards and as a consequence our scoring rate was a little slow. Luckily for us the opposition bowling was quite wild so we picked up 31 extras which boosted our total to 87 off 18 overs (reduced due to late start). James Parry top scored with a very useful 23 not out.
West Herts then started to stampede to victory with their openers smashing full tosses to the boundary at will (Goodwyn mostly!). However when James Parry bowled their slogger they began to wilt. Our bowlers kept up the pressure and every time the ball went in the air we took a catch. There were wickets for Lovett (2), Hunter (2), Wilton (1) and debutant Hamish Blackwood (1). James Parry took 3 catches at mid-off. It all came down to a frantic last over bowled by Jamie Slater. Needing 6 to win there was a bye, a wide, an edged single, a run out, a dot ball and finally Jamie bowled their last man to secure victory by just 2 runs. Well done boys - thats 3 wins out of 3!!
