Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12B v Tring Park on Thu 17 Jun 2010 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 13 runs
Match report
Berkhamsted came out on top against Tring in a great game that could have gone either way right up to the final over.
Batting first, the home team started brightly and put on 50 for the first wicket. Jonathan Butler Caddle scoring an excellent 24 before being well caught off the bowling of Johnson. Charlie Nicholls batted well - combining sound defence with some typically aggressive leg-side hitting - and retired unbeaten on 30.
Tring bowled tidily and fielded well under the guidance of captain Anthony McCormack, but it was Foxcroft who did the damage with the ball, taking the wickets of Lewis (17), Tidey (9) and Lewarne in a great spell. He almost picked up a fourth wicket when Mack (7) was dropped at mid-on, but it mattered not as the batsman was run out in the confusion, with Berko looking to up the run rate. Oli Holdroyd hit a couple of quick boundaries in the closing moments, but a timely last-over maiden from Murphy - and the final ball run out of Miles (6) - kept Berkhamsted's score down to 122-6.
Tring had fought back well and it was game on. But in reply, the visitors got off to a shaky start losing a wicket in the first over - Charlie Mack holding onto a sharp chance off the bowling of Anna Nicholls. Despite the setback, Tring re-grouped and took the game to Berkhamsted with some great hitting and running between the wickets. With Wagerleigh retiring on 30 and Murphy back in the pavilion after being bowled by Jonathan Butler Caddle for a fine 28, Tring were still very much in the game needing 44 off 6 overs. But when Lewis ran out the dangerous McCormack with a direct hit, and Tidey bowled Foxcroft, the game swung back Berkhamsted's way and despite their considerable efforts, Tring finished 13 runs short.
Credit goes to all the players who provided a thoroughly entertaining evening’s cricket.
