On a typically chilly, blustery evening at Kitchener’s Field, Berkhamsted ended up comfortable winners against Leverstock Green, who, despite moments of quality, struggled to deal with the home team’s strong bowling attack. Harry Ormerod was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets in an impressive opening spell. After clean bowling the opening pair, he picked up the wicket of Daniel Lake (who had looked comfortable up to that point having hit a couple of boundaries) after he top-edged a short ball to Jamie Slater, who took an excellent running catch on the boundary. When Anna Nicholls ran out another dangerman Lewis Glascoe, Leverstock were in trouble and despite some stubborn resistance from the lower order, they were bowled out for 35. Berkhamsted’s other wicket takers were Nicholls (2), Lewis, Lewarne, Lovett and Butler Caddle.

In reply, Berko’s opening pair put on 34 before Jack Evans took the wicket of Berkhamsted captain George Lewarne just as the sun was setting. Ted Stanford finished on 23 not out, including a big pull for six into the adjoining field!
