U15s are County Champions!

25 Jun 2009

In a very tense match the U15s led by Ben Beard secured the win over Radlett last night to help erase the memory of a last ball defeat in the final last summer.

With almost half the side stuck on the M25, it was a good toss to win and elect to bat. After a classy opening stand from Max Jones and Luke O'Dair, we failed to maintain the momentum and wickets fell regularly until Will Steed managed to score some handy boudaries towards the end. At 20 overs, our score of 122 looked to be 20 runs too short.

Radlett started well and took full advantage of the gifted four-balls we offered each over to keep up with the run rate. However, a breakthrough from Jordan Harrison's first ball yorker helped slow things down and then wickets continued to come just at the right time even as some lightning fast running from Radlett kept them in the hunt. Some excellent pressure bowling from Ben, Seb Smith, Huw Barnett and Luke O'Dair and terrific ground fielding (3 run outs) showed the depth of our resources.

With 15 needed off the last two overs, the first two balls went for 7, but by then Radlett were into push and run on every ball and keeper Alex Hubbard moved to gather and throw down the stumps from side on to take the last wicket. A win by 8 runs and thoroughly deserved.

Congratulations to Andy Chambers and the entire U15 squad - the whole Club is proud of you.

Now we play other counties in a knock out for the National Cup. After securing a bye in the first round, we play the second round before the 19th July, Details to follow.
