Boxmoor III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 02 Jul 2016 at 1pm - 80 overs (42/38)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 77 runs

Match report It was going to be a frustrating day of on and off the field for heavy showers - 3 times in the first innings and once in the second - but Boxmoor, very much to their credit, played their part by agreeing up front that in the shorter game time was not an issue and overs would not be deducted. They stuck to the principle well, even when things were not going quite as well for them.

They won the toss and inserted us and, being keen for the win to keep up behind the division leaders, we wanted to bat positively for a declaration to give us time to push for it.

It wasn't helped when Pete went first ball of the match - Mark, as umpire, described it as the ball of the innings, jagging off the pitch to hit the stumps. Far be it from Pete to disagree.

Matt took up the role of batting discipline and bedded in. When the score was around 70-4 and Stephen came in they set about the secondary order bowling. They were hitting well and harrying in the running and Boxmoor had no answer. Matt brought up his maiden 50 - for this club or any club! - with a very good innings and carried on to a highly creditable 75 not out, with Stephen also batting really well for his 65, bowled going for more runs in the last over to be batted, the 40th.

Boxmoor started well but then Harry got the breakthrough, getting both openers and we were off, working our way through the order with decent bowling all round.

At around 70-5 and the run rate escalating, Boxmoor decided enough was enough and opted to play out time with around 20 overs left. Bowlers were rotated to try to get through and Matt brought on to toss the ball up a bit and tempt. Mannering, the 13 year old keeper for Boxmoor, batted well and looked good in the face of a number of close catchers, but we chipped away at wickets until 2 were left with 2 overs to go with Mannering still in. Harry bowled the penultimate over and got young Mannering to chip to Tim at slip and then Will was brought on the for the last one bowling fast and straight. The 4th ball did the trick, taking the off stump and we had done it!

Credit to some excellent catching, Dan took 2 good ones behind the stumps and Tim snaffled 2 slip catches with ease. Only one chance went down the whole innings. All bowlers bowled well and helped us keep them under pressure, with Harry and Will being standout and Dharmin taking a couple when needed.

A truly excellent all round team performance.
