Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Chipperfield Clarendon III on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Toss won, the skipper decided to insert, not knowing the opposition strength and not having the strongest side we might.
We fielded extremely well, everyone pulling together. The bowling was tight, the skipper opening with Harry and himself and the opposition finding runs hard to come by. Harry was very unlucky to not get wickets in his first spell with 2 drops off excellent bowling. Peter was, in the meantime finding that he was tying the opposition down and bowled through for 13 overs of parsimonious figures. The score was only a little over 40 at drinks at 24 overs.
The score picked up later as wickets fell more regularly and ended at 146-8 with John and OC also bowling tightly.
After tea, there was a disastrous start when we were 9-3 and things were looking tough. John settled things down and with Dan started repairing things. Dan was showing promising until playing across the line to a new bowler. Then new player Luca plus Derek and Luca's father Todd supported John well while he started taking to the bowling. John showed class in his batting, hitting the bad balls well and got to 68 with no effort then it came as a surprise as he left a straight one to be bowled. Nervy times were ahead as Andy and Ian C nudged and hurdled us towards our target with only 2 wickets left. But we needn't have worried as they got us there with nearly 3 overs left.
Good teamwork from all, great fielding and a deserved win.
