Old Albanian III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Today was chiefly the TP show, with 5 wickets and 43 runs undefeated chasing 100, undoubtedly the star, but there were many contributions and a very good team performance.
OA 3s won the toss and opted to bat. The openers looked comfortable against seam bowling, although it must be said that Sam Q bowled well for his opening 5 over spell, deserving a wicket although not getting one.
We swapped to spin with TP at one end and John at the other and immediately it was obvious that the wicket was taking turn and TP was getting prodigious and accurate spin accounting for the very dangerous Goodier who looked above this standard with one that turned past the bat and took off stump. From there OA struggled and the run rate went down. Pressure from TP's end was creating wickets at the other end and steadily they went down with John taking a couple and Jamie another when swapped for John. TP was now joining in and started to run through a weaker lower middle order. We pressured and pushed them out for 100, with TP getting a hugely deserved 14-6-26-5.
Matt Dight deserves a mention for bowling well and straight to the lower order, breaking the stumps twice in an over.
OA attacked in return and Stephen was out early to a defensive push that sent the hard ball to short mid off. From there, Peter and Tim bedded in, not worrying about run rate, with 55 overs to bat. When Tim was out LBW, Peter and TP carried on and pushed singles and twos in the running. Peter shaved a nick to the keeper and James followed after, but then TP and John really took hold of the game, hitting the bad balls hard and then accelerating to the win in no time.
Good catching on the whole, a few went down but we held them at the right times. All, especially the youngsters, contributed well to a very good win.
