Grand Reunion on June 29th 2025
Many thanks to everyone who has 'signed up' to attend the Grand Reunion event on Sunday 29th June. All former BCC members, their family & friends, and anyone else who has heard about the event and would like to join in will be most welcome to do so. We are looking forward to welcoming you and members of your family & friends to our Grand Reunion event, to be held at the Berkhamsted Cricket club ground at Kitchener’s Field, HP4 1HE on Sunday 29th June, starting at 12:30pm
The following details are provided to assist with your planning:
1) Travel and Parking arrangements
a. The best way to travel will be by public transport, with the cricket ground a 5-minute walk from Berkhamsted railway station.
b. As ever, parking at the ground is limited and will be restricted on the day to players’ cars only for safety reasons.
c. The best parking options for you are therefore:
- on New Road, where there is a gate halfway along allowing you to walk down to the cricket field;
- at the rear of the railway station arches; or
- in the railway station car park, for a fee of £7 bookable online at www.sabaparking.co.uk
d. If you choose to park nearby around the town, please park considerately and do not block any drives or access points.
e. We have arranged for approximately 30 spaces to be available on the School’s side of Kitchener’s field (controlled by a barrier) for those with limited mobility. If you wish to apply for those spaces in Kitchener’s Field, please email jdent@viaint.com explaining your needs. You will not be able to ask for those spaces on the day.
2) What to do on arrival
a. As you approach the Clubhouse, bear to your left to enter the field
b. There will be a table where you can write and affix a large name label to your lapel. This will aid in finding friends, and them finding you. Recollections may vary!
c. Collect your copies of the special BCC150 Souvenir Programme.
3) What to expect
a. The gates open at 12:30.
b. The Grand Reunion event will take place on the upper part of the cricket ground, as there will be a Women’s Premier League match between Berkhamsted Women’s 1st XI and Chesham Women on the main square, starting at 13:00.
c. There will be a large marquee for shade (hopefully) or shelter with plenty of seating and tables which will be near the catering wagons. There will be additional toilets installed behind the marquee.
d. Inside the marquee will be a historical display highlighting some of the Club’s many special moments, and an accompanying stand by the Berkhamsted Local History & Museum Society.
e. There will be face-painting and an organized crafting zone for younger children, as well as giant Jenga and other similar games.
f. A raffle will be drawn from tickets sold on the day, so please bring plenty of cash! Prizes include a 5 litre keg of Mad Squirrel’s beer.
g. During the tea interval (approx. 16:00), there will be a brief update on the Club and a few key announcements. We will also hoist the 150th Anniversary Flag for the first time and toast the future of the Club…
h. There will be a YouTube feed of part of the proceedings, including the speeches during the tea interval, which can be viewed on the day or at a later date.
i. Immediately following the match, there will be an opportunity to take group pictures with the Clubhouse as background.
j. A photographer will be capturing the overall occasion. Please indicate any issues you would have with re-use within BCC circles of the resultant images.
k. The day will draw to a close either as the sun sets or the bar closes.
l. Dress code is casual. (Groups wanting to take reunion group pictures may want to agree on their dress code beforehand).
4) Catering arrangements
a. The Clubhouse kitchen (Pizzas, burgers chips, children’s options, etc), BBQ and bar will be open all day. When using the pavilion facilities, please respect the priority of the players’ access and use of the decking area.
b. There will be an extra bar installed next to the nets.
c. There will be a number of food wagons offering Indian street food, Caribbean food, coffee, sweets and ice creams.
d. There will be plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options
e. All outlets will take electronic payments.
5) Wet weather contingencies
a. The event will go ahead, regardless! The marquee can provide shelter for several hundred people. Bring suitable coats and brollies if the forecast is for rain (and sun cream if for sun).
6) Who is coming?
a. Among attendees on the day who will have travelled longer distances to be at the event are Mark Herring, Brian Collins, John Davis and Ian Dent.
b. Life Members such as Dennis Atkins and a wide range of Vice Presidents will be present to welcome everyone back to the Club.
c. We have invited players from regular opponents such as Northchurch, Hemel Hempstead, etc to join us. The current likelihood is a Grand Reunion overall attendance of 300 – 400 people.
7) If you have not already done so, please confirm the intention to attend with an indication of your overall group size (including any friends you have invited to come along) by replying to petedudley@aol.com
We can’t wait to welcome you all back to the best Cricket Club in Hertfordshire – see you on June 29th and do bring a tenner for the raffle!
