Chorleywood IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 59 runs

Match report We arrived at Westwood park in Little Chalfont in search of our second win of the season. The park is a quite scenic ground but with a council run pitch which looked distinctly ropey. We were inserted to bat and right from the start the pitch misbehaved - some extravagant tennis ball bounce and Ollie Todd clonked on the helmet from a ball that reared off a full length. In general our batters were finding it hard to time the ball but with wickets falling around him Peter gradually started to find his form, running well between the wicket and driving the ball over the top. Straight after he reached an excellent match winning 50 he misjudged another drive and was stumped. The pitch was continuing to do strange things and with Chorleywood putting on slower bowlers it wasn't easy to force boundaries. A horrible mix-up between Mark and Tom resulted in the latter being run out, and after that Mark decided on a strategy of accumulation, first with Ollie and then with Vinit, hitting boundaries when possible but mainly pushing singles off every possible ball. Doing this edged our score up to 179 before we sat down to a very nice tea, often the best part of playing away from home.

We emerged after tea to find out that the temperature had dropped a lot and the clouds were closing in. Dipesh and OC opened up and were quickly wreaking havoc and with the score at 37-6 it looked like we would be on for a very early finish. However, for what ever reason Chorleywood seemed to have better batters down the order and a few boundaries lifted their score past three figures towards respectability. Ollie Todd bowled an excellent spell of 8 overs taking 3 wickets, Niloy completed his second stumping, there was a spectacular diving catch from Peps (it took him a while to get up from that) and there was a classic village moment with Niloy chasing the ball behind him to the boundary only to find out the batter was walking off having trod all over the stumps. Chorleywood's no 10 was clearly their best batter (as well as their best bowler/fielder) and we were fortunate he had not come in further up the order as inevitably he ran out of partners with 8 overs to go.

We have now hit the dizzy heights of third from bottom of Regional Div B West and with 3 games to go hopefully we can secure a couple more victories before the season draws to a close
