Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Northwood Town III on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 20 runs
Match report
Berko won the toss on another sweltering day. Dave and Jacob started well against a decent attack before Jacob was run out by a direct hit from the boundary going for a second. Steve came in for a cameo 25 which included 5 fours before Ollie went quickly. Dave reached his fifty but then didn't last much longer so it was left to Puds (53) to up the rate along with Pete who made a brisk 27. Another not out for Simsy got the total up to a respectable 238 - the largest of the season helped by a huge number of extras.
In reply, the Northwood Town skipper sacrificed his wicket in a run out coolly executed by Vinit/Simsy but his generosity wasn't rewarded as his opening partner was cleaned up by Toby with a neat outswinger and Ian then bowled the number three to leave them 7 for 3. All over we thought.....we hadn't counted on a partnership of 150 between Adatia (105) and Rajpot (49) but eventually the bowling changes paid off. With the skipper gambling on Toby & OC making a breakthough they kept it tight with OC snaffling Rajpot. With the pressure back on, Jake then cleaned up with 3 quick wickets thanks to Simsy and Vinit's safe hands and Ollie T bowled a tidy last over when the oppo needed 26 to win. All credit to the bowlers for not panicking, especially Jake and Ollie who showed great composure to bowl the last 7 overs under pressure.
So, consecutive wins, batsman and bowlers in form and a creep up the table to 4th spot. The skipper's now away for 3 weeks but has faith that he will come back to at least a couple of wins and another place up the table.
