Redbourne v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red on Fri 23 May 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Redbourne won by 39 runs
Match report
We went into this man unfortunately one player short after a communications mix up but despite this we got off to a great start with Joe and Matthew opening the batting and scoring 16 between them. Ben and Sam continued the good batting as did Eddie and Logan with Eddie demonstrating some very special defensive shots against a very good bowler. Logan also showed his cover drive which was a surprise to his Dad but just a formality for Logan.Unfortunately being one player short, George had to play with a runner at the other end which Joe did very well. George hit three fours to follow one from Matthew and one from Eddie. In total we lost 5 wickets.
Our bowling was also tight with each player making a great contribution. Unfortunately our catching let us down somewhat and the batsmen took advantage. We took one wicket bowled by Eddie and we managed an exciting run out as a result of some great fielding.
In summary, the match would have been very close if we had had a complete team and held our catches, so something to work on there. Just for completion Matthew was our top batsman with 12 and Ben and Sam were our best couple with 17. George was the only bowler to get a real maiden (0 runs scored and no wides or no balls) which was great considering it was the last over of the game. Sam was the tightest bowler only allowing 4 runs from his 2 overs. Everyone fielded well and covered the ground as was needed.
Well done to everyone and thanks to the mums and dads for supporting us and helping with the scoring.
