Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 13A v Tring Park on Thu 25 May 2017 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost 51 runs

Match report A gorgeous summer evening, first of the season, and spirits were high for what is always a hard fought match against local rivals Tring. No sign of the extraordinary match that was to unfold.

Tring won the toss and elected to bat on a nice looking surface. Having lost a couple of players to injury we fielded with 10 but there was plenty of energy led by captain Hubbard. Opening bolwers Pemberton and Kapadia set about the Tring top order with craft and aggression respectively and after 6 overs Pemberton had removed the top 3 with help from good work by Alexander behind the stumps for the loss of only 10 runs. The boys were buzzing and fielding was tight with the boys putting their bodies on the line to plug the gaps from being a man down, special mention to Heginbottom playing up at short notice who saved several runs on the boundary. Sudbery and Doe took over bowling and kept the run rate low as Tring dug in and rebuilt their innings. The energy in the field was maintained to the end, Tring picked up a few runs as they played their shots towards the end of the innings. Charlie Montero picked up a wicket thanks to sharp work behind the stumps from Alexander again and Tring ended on a modest 86/4.

The Berko boys were rightly pleased with themselves as we prepared to bat, however, the less said about what followed the better. Essentially we lost early wickets, panic set in and we collapsed in spectacular fashion. At one point in 5 overs we lost 6 wickets for 5 runs off the bat, 6 were bowled. Captain Hubbard ans last man Heginbottom were the only ones to put up any resistance and we were all out for 35 in under 12 overs. We were all stunned and embarrassed by what happened and can only hope the boys put this down to experience and work hard on the batting to put it right next time.

Cricket can be a funny game, this really was one of the best performances in the field followed by the worst with the bat, the net result being a hiding. We still have many games to come and I am sure the group will bounce back and show what they can do.
