Match report Last game of what has been a challenging league for the boys this year. To the relief of our hardy supporters we had a warm, dry evening which made a change from the cold, damp conditions most of the games have been played in.
We won the the toss and put LG in on a wicket that looked greener than the outfield. Opening bowlers Jack Pemberton and Adam Kapadia kicked off with 7 lovely controlled overs removing 4 of the LG top 5 for 12 runs, taking 2 each all bowled. Charlie Doe and Will Stanford took over with more tight overs but LG then dug in and ground out a reasonable score with the help of some generous Berko bowling in the last 8 overs. Kapadia returned in the last over to remove the main run scorer and LG finished on 59/5.
A modest total to chase but a tricky test on a hairy wicket and a must win game. Harry Longbottom and the ever reliable Oliver Todd opened the batting and diligently negotiated the opening overs before calmly putting on the runs needed, putting away the bad balls and with sharp running. After Longbottom fell to a fine catch, Harry Oldham continued with Todd to knock off the runs with plenty to spare.
A comfortable win in the end leaving us in second place in a tough group but waiting on other results to see if we get through to the 1/4 finals. Overall another good season and a pleasure taking these boys who have played with great spirit throughout.
