Mill Hill Village III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 21 May 2016 at 1pm - limited overs (40)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 151 runs
Match report
A weather threatening day in North London and the weather forecast is dire all over the area. Important thing is to win the toss and look to pressurise.
Nope, that plan didn't work, toss lost and we are inserted.
Matt, on his debut, and Pete start steadily but then Matt is bowled and Stephen takes over. The runs build with a good slope on one side meaning you get good value for shots down there. Except that Pete keeps hitting a particular fielder instead.
After Stephen is out LBW sweeping, Dan comes in and a tragedy results from both players ball watching a catch attempt off Pete and Dan ends up run out.
John's rustiness shows with a big heave at a straight ball off the leggie and James and Pete then rebuild and gradually increase the pace of the innings running the field ragged and picking off 4s too. One super 6 from James. A 96 partnership has ensured a big score, with James out for 44, and Pete is approaching a ton. With 8 needed for it in the last over, tiredness takes over and he ends up 5 short but still proud of it.
With the weather getting damper and damper, an opening burst from Toby and Jack results in a neat run out from Joe but little more and the skipper is worrying about getting through 20 overs for a legitimate result if rained off. Joe and John are brought on for short run ups and getting through the overs. Fortunately, they get through wickets too and MHV are collapsing fast. It includes a comedy run out where the batsman hits the ball in the air, wanders out of his crease and falls over trying to get back, eventually crawling without his bat. In the meantime, the throw has been missed and it takes a couple of attempts to get the bails off. So confusing that the batsman had to be told multiple times that he was out before getting the message.
The skipper relaxed with 20 overs reached but it was all over 2 overs later with Harry having the honours having had no chance to bowl before that.
3 wins out of 3 has us joint top with 2 other teams. One of them is next week and we find out where we really are.....
