Match report A pleasant if windy and chilly evening at Shenley which was a relief after quite a bit of rain all day. We had parents and boys breaking off their holidays to come and attend the first quarter final the boys have made so far.
Shenley had prepared a brand new wicket for the match and after winning the toss we decided to bowl.
Shenley got to work straight away and steadily accumulated running 3 out of every 4 balls faced. They paid the price eventually losing their openers to run outs after excellent work from Harry Oldham behind the stumps and Joe Hubbard in the field. The following batsmen continued in the same vein despite some decent bowling and fielding, Ben Oldham and Joe Hubbard took precious wickets but Shenley got to an imposing total of 127.
Berko got off to a mixed start to our innings, scoring at a decent rate but losing our 2 openers in the first 4 overs. Oliver Todd came in and played a fantastic innings over 15 overs only being denied a retirement by an LBW decision on 29! Unfortunately Berko were unable to keep up the momentum in the middle overs in the face of some tight bowling and as the required rate rose to 10+ hopes faded. We ended on 106 after a late flourish from Jack P, losing by 21 runs and so ends our competitive season.
The boys can really hold their heads high and have done themselves proud. There has been huge improvement throughout the year and we look forward to the future.
