Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Northwood Town III on Sat 05 Sep 2015 at 12.30pm - limited overs (45)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets
Match report
Opposition turn up for a 1pm start rather than the earlier 12.30pm due and hence in a bit of a panic. They win the toss and decide to bat on a wicket that's only just had some rain on. A definite plus for us, we feel.
Soon have them 4-3 with Ethan and Mark bowling exceptionally and taking wickets in each of the first 3 overs between them. The experienced 4 and 5 dig in and build with OC and Johnny taking their turn at them and keeping it tight on a slow wicket. Once we get the breakthrough, through a good gully catch by Ethan off OC then the wickets fall again and they are 74-7. The number 9 has an eye and not a bad technique and swings away. We hang tough and eventually Rob P gets him mishitting to mid off.
The rest subside meakly and the target is 126 to win and bag 4th place.
Solid start from Pete and Dave, but their experienced left arm opener eventually gets them both and from there the middle order struggle with the pitch and swing to have us 47-5 and the oppo jubilant.
But in comes Dan B to show us how it's done. With classic leaves and solid defence he demoralises the bowlers while Ethan - looking equally solid at the other end - gets going. The field goes quiet as the pair notch up the runs and never look like getting out. In the end a 81 run partnership sees us home and Ethan cursing Dan for nicking the winning runs leaving him stranded on 49*.
The oppo are magnanimous in defeat and congratulate Dan on his class batting.
So we end up 4th, a really good performance for the season and hopefully a lever to better things next year. Well done ALL players for the 3s this year.
