Parkfield & Headstone II v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 08 Aug 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 43 runs

Match report Toss lost on a very green wicket and we were inserted. The opposition were looking in a little disarray with only 7 players about at start time and the captain prevailing on my good nature to put back the start time 15 minutes for a "missing keeper".

We walked out to take guard at ten past and they had 10 with a keeper present so we got on with it. Pete and Josh got off to a great start with a 55 opening stand as the oppo bowlers sprayed bowling all over the place and we took advantage of wides and byes. But Josh was unlucky with a very short one looking like a bouncer and he ducked as it kept low and bowled him. No better indication of the state of the pitch.

Pete gloved a full toss for a catch and now wickets started ticking away, especially once Patel came on as 4th bowler and surprised us by being the fastest and most accurate of the lot. A weird choice to bowl him late.

He took wickets off his first 2 balls and we had to fight for runs with the run rate plummeting from the initial 5 an over that the first wicket achieved. OC did his usual good job of shepherding the tail for a very useful 27 and we were all out for 139 - the skipper not best pleased to miss out on 2 points by 1 run.

From the reverse fixture, we were aware that they would go hard at it and it was valuable to bowl accurately on the dodgy pitch. Harry delivered the goods and with his 7 over stint delivered us 5 quality wickets while OC pinned them down at the other end. Kian kicked things off with a stonking gully catch and the threatening Virgo (scored 100 off us in the reverse fixture very aggressively) was snaffled by Phill at long on with our field put back to him. The others, for Harry, were bowled as he bowled straight and used the variable bounce.

From there very good catching and accurate bowling by OC and Louis Cooper ticked off the wickets steadily - even the one tough catch dropped by Josh was picked up by Pete to be thrown in for the run out. It was our day.

It was down to the last wicket and the no. 9 trying desperately to shield a young and very inexperienced number 11 for more than 20 overs. It wasn't to be as Will Gardener returned to dismiss the no. 11 at silly mid off.

This season has been characterised by top fielding performances and this was no exception. Coupled with Harry's excellent bowling we blew them away in the field.

PS The skipper forgave the "missing" batting point from our batting on us getting all 30 from the win anyway. A highly suitable response to the problem!
