Northwood Town III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 1pm - 90 overs (47/43)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
First toss lost by Peter this season, we were inserted on an artificial wicket, which none of us were looking forward to.
The start to the innings was very poor and we were quickly around 50-6 with most players bowled by good, straight Northwood Town bowling utilising swing in humid conditions.
Charlie Mann was the chief rebuilder showing great maturity beyond his age to hit a good, disciplined 35 together with Ian Campbell who was batting well for his 26 before getting run out in a silly single. In the circumstances, 137 was at least a target to set.
With no chance of restricting Northwood Town in nearly 60 overs to face we opted to attack and switched bowling often. Everyone bowled well, but they were disciplined in their approach to batting and waited for the bad ball. Their No. 3 hit hard when he could and they got to 128-1, only 10 runs needed, when the skipper threw the ball again to Jamie Slater. He got the No. 3 first ball and 2 wickets in the over and suddenly their were jitters. Two more wickets went - including a peach of a catch in slips by Charlie Mann - but it was well too late really.
A spirited losing display against strong, but courteous, opposition.
