Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Northwood Town III on Sat 16 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 65 runs
Match report
After winning the toss, Peter opted to bat first.
Looked like backfiring when Jack was out for a golden on the 3rd ball of the innings, but Mark and Peter got the innings going before Mark was out. A couple more reasonable partnerships were built fairly slowly against reasonable swing bowling on a greenish pitch with Peter nudging and nurdling his way to 42 when he was out looking to get things going a little more.
That triggered a mini-collapse to 113-7 with about 13 overs left - including Romit being embarrassed by being stumped first ball - when Stephen and Tom Horsburgh really got going with their shots and hassling the runs. Northwood Town seemed to panic a little and pushed all fielders back which left lots of good gaps for them to exploit. Once Stephen was out for a good quickfire 35, Tom and Charlie continued the good work and hitting to raise a respectable 186-8 and full batting points was a good start.
Jack and Charlie enjoyed a good burst opening the bowling and took the first couple of wickets to fall, but the unorthodox batsmen were getting away with too many edges and false shots. TP and Romit were introduced to spin their webs.
TP got the good bat Pandey out with a good catch at square leg by Stephen at the 2nd attempt and wickets now started to tumble as well as the score slow down. TP got a filthy one when the number 4 hit a full toss to Charlie on the mid-wicket boundary and Romit was going through them at the other end. It was just a question of when now, with Northwood Town only having 10 bats, 1 having to have gone home early on a day when they were hit for team selection by a religious festival.
Romit got his 5th getting the last wicket with an appeal off the skipper's edge to nowhere given out LBW by the umpire. A bizarre way to finish, but they wanted to get off so didn't object too much.
Another excellent win which pushes us to the edge of the mid-table line for the 10 team division cut off for next season.
