Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Chipperfield Clarendon III on Sat 02 Aug 2014 at 1pm

Match report
It was one of those days where we were on and off for rain. Peter had won the toss and, seeing the forecast, had opted to insert, looking to chase with possibly fewer overs to have a score set and with a good looking batting line up.
After a couple of breaks and an over lost each, a bigger fall of rain came 24 overs into the Chipperfield Clarendon innings and much time was spent waiting for drying and having an early tea. The pitch was JUST dry enough at the time when it would have to be abandoned for too few overs otherwise and we resumed with 36 overs set to be completed and us due for 32 overs in return.
For the actual play, Jack and Charlie started the innings struggling to find their length and the oppo shot off to a good start. They both improved greatly and provided a big threat, Charlie accounting for the openers and Jack for the number 3. Phil and John took over and again struggled to get a length and line at first but improved.
Then came the rain.
On the restart with 12 overs left Phil and John were given a chance before Jack and Charlie were brought back and kept it tight to restrict to 155. Not bad when they were on 102 before the 12 overs.
Jack got 4 very deserved wickets, including 2 C&Bs in 2 balls.
The batting wasn't as it should have been. Tame catches were offered by most of the top order, including two off full tosses from a bowler bowling floaty outswingers. We were soon 27-5 and it was left to Puds to look to rebuild with Tim B. He hit some handsome boundaries before another catch went up from him and the Tims B and S looked to carry on with some success. But the chances were still coming to Chipperfield and, to be fair, they took each one on offer and despite Phil also hitting well we struggled to keep up as needed.
In the end it was a little strange not seeing Chipperfield going for the win with 1 wicket left. Perhaps they got thrown by the fact that we were still going positively up to a couple overs from the end and got a touch worried we might get there. But we wouldn't have deserved it.
