Rickmansworth IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 05 Jul 2014 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
A damp weather forecast left us feeling the game was unlikely to be on, travelling to Rickmansworth for a game against their 4th XI and with a strong team selected for the first time in the season, our chance of moving away from 2nd bottom in the division seemed possibly frustrated.
Bur Rickmansworth were keen for the game, too, and despite their pitch being wet they switched the game to an artificial wicket at the local school. Cue much moaning from some of the seniors about the pitch, despite us being desperate for the result.
The skipper won the toss and inserted the opposition to maximise win chances and the two Joes - Atkins and Peacock - started solidly. Joe A bowled with pace from a few steps - due to lack of spikes - and got the crucial wicket of the skipper, who looked solid and experienced, when one bounced from a length, hit his glove and looped to Puds for a tidy catch at slip. The rest of the batting order looked weak and we concentrated on bowling straight to maximise wicket chances, which worked.
Romit came on and carried on the policy getting good results. A good hitter down the order threatened hitting to leg, but was well pouched by Joe A at deep square leg.
It was a bit untidy at the end, with concentration slipping and 5 catches went down before the oppo were tidied up by Joe and Romit for 102. A few more than it looked like at one point. Romit ended up with a deserved "Michelle".
Peter and Stephen started solidly and brought up a 50 partnership to set things going before a short ball had Stephen cramped on a pull which looped to mid wicket. Ethan and Peter watched carefully against a threatening Hussein who generated good pace on a variable bounce surface before a batch of boundaries saw it more or less home. Peter fell before the target was reached around 5pm.
A good clinical performance, apart from the end of their innings and we're back in the mix in the division.
