Met Police Bushey III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 03 Aug 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 78 runs

Match report After winning the toss, we opted to bat and started against a 9 man opposition, with the last 2 expected to arrive later.

Andre and Peter started steadily, exploiting the big gaps until Andre played on to a slower ball, then Ted and Peter really started hassling the field for runs and Ted launched a few booming drives for 4.

A period of rain forced us off, but we had the Div 12 rarity of covers being available for the pitch and after a half hour break and 4 overs lost per side, we restarted. Ted got out, after a good 29 and verging on stepping up, to cover point dropping and then falling into a catch. The rest of the order continued to support Peter, who eventually top edged his attempted 50th run to backward cover. It was hectic pressure to try to get to our final batting points at 170 in the 43rd (and final) over, but despite Jacob selflessly sacrificing his wicket without facing a ball to keep Rob on strike to attempt it, we fell 2 runs short of target.

We had 39 overs to get Met Police out and Rob and Josh opened well and fast. Josh was worried about an injury after 2 overs so was swapped for Ted, who kept up the pace momentum.

Then the key event happened with a "team hat-trick" of the young opener edging a destined wide from Rob to our sterling keeper, Peter Drury, the skipper running out the other opener by a pitch length from a cool piece of fielding by Stephen and the number 4 being bowled first ball by a fast yorker from Rob.

Rob continued to mix up fast ones and slower ones, totally flummoxing the batsmen and got out the skipper to an edge behind. Meanwhile, Ted was getting the batsmen all ends up and ended with nothing to show for it. Another day he'll bowl worse and take 3 or 4.

On to the spin duo of OC and Jamie. Jamie showed that the best way of taking wickets is to bowl a leg side full toss to be slapped to OC at fine leg. 2 juggles and the ball was his.

OC then worked through the lower order, 4 bowled, and bagged another 5-fer to wrap things up at 90 all out.

The Met Police side was weak after the top order batsmen, but this was an excellent performance by all with a superb team spirit and everybody contributed well.
