Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Hatfield & Crusaders V on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
On the main pitch for change, felt like being spoilt. The opposition got stuck behind steam tractors going down Kings Road at 2mph and we started a little late on a cooler day after lots of stonkingly hot ones.
Hatfield won the toss and their 10 man team opted to bat first, which suited us. The outfield was like lightning but that didn't stop Josh Peacock and Hamish bowling a superb opening spell. Hamish kept it tight, not conceding his first runs unti his 3rd over and Josh troubled the batsmen with real pace and accuracy. He soon notched up 2 wickets and could have had a 3rd if his skipper hadn't dropped the edge standing in as keeper.
On came the spinners and even though Hatfield were hitting and nicking fours the wickets kept ticking, with the timbers taking a pasting and 2 bails getting broken. The innings subsided to 117, nowhere near enough on a good baked pitch and outfield.
The Berkhamsted innings went steadily, all carefully waiting and hitting the bad one. The oppo brought on their 73 year old left arm spinner who tossed it up high and the youngsters struggled with the big change in approach. Still, Harvey Lewis batted well and, with less than 30 to go, Puds had finally had enough (he was determined to have the match finished by 6pm to do some pitch work) and hit the spinner for three 6's in a row to the long boundary to break the back of the chase and coast home a couple of overs later. 5.50pm, plenty of time for Puds to go and do what he needed. Job done.
