Cheshunt II v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 1 wicket with 2 balls remaining
Match report
Berkhamsted were inserted by a Cheshunt side obviously looking to push through for the win on a dry, slow and low bouncing wicket. Andre and Peter started very steadily and resisted the opening bowlers for a long spell, quietening down the fielders and frustrating them.
After drinks at 22 overs it was still only 50-0 and Cheshunt were swapping bowlers trying to get a break through. Finally Andre played on for a good 26 in a 72 partnership and the two Peters - Dudley and Drury - then upped the pace with good boundaries and sharp running, putting on another 54 in 11 overs.
The following batsmen supported Peter Dudley well in aggressive running and hassling the field to get up to 179-6 and maximum batting points, Peter out LBW to a grubber in the penultimate over for a valuable 72.
Berko kept the old ball and started with the spin twins (although maybe twins isn't quite the right word...) of OC and Jamie, and OC immediately struck with 2 wickets in the first over. Cheshunt struggled with the lack of pace and accuracy. The new ball was taken at the last possible opportunity and the seamers given the opportunity to show what they can do.
Cheshunt by now were getting antsy about their win and sent in hitters as the wickets fell. It was all down to the last over where Cheshunt with 1 wicket left offered a dificult chance to Jamie who could not quite hold on before they knocked off the last run needed. OC took 4 wickets and Jacob took 3.
A great effort by the team and a very creditable 19 points that could so easily have been 30. This leaves us 9th in the table and still well placed.
