Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Tewin II on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 86 runs
Match report
After losing the toss on a sunny day with a dry wicket, we contemplated our one regular bowler - Hamish Jarvie - and our mixture of young and old and stepped into the breach.
Hamish opened with the not-so-regular-bowler skipper at the other end and the first overs were tight and the first wicket went to Peter's dibbly-dobbly balls into the wind. The second wicket proved harder to break and chopping around between the younger bowlers - who bowled their hearts out - and the not so young Machon eventually chipped away at the batting order. Tewin got away in the end, though, and the number 8 hit some lusty blows to lift the score to 199. Seven wickets taken though, and some higly admirable fielding from the new young players Adam Brierley, Jamie Slater, Amish Adodra plus Will Bickerdyke admirable behind the stumps taking 2 catches, a stumping and executing a neat run out. Also a special mention for Hugo Graham, who fielded like a greyhound.
Jamie and Amish bowled tidy spin and ended up with wickets to their name.
Batting started off with Andre with a runner - due to a pulled muscle performing bolwing duties - and the potential for confusion managed to be avoided as he notched up 30. However, wickets ticked away at the other end and the lack of experience told in the end. Peps got out to a loopy "spin bowler" who was chucking it in the air - off the back of his bat - and that was it really. Hamish and Jamie saw us through for 20 odd runs for our 2 batting points.
An excellent effort, considering the patched together nature of the side, and I'll be keen to see the youngsters playing for us again.
