Flitwick III v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 07 Jul 2012 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 107 runs
Match report
After a long journey up the M1, the lads were in no mood to mess around when we arrived to find it raining. The oppo were keen too (not surprising when they were 3rd at the start of the game). Wit a good draining outfield and an artificial pitch all we had to do was wait for the rain to stop. It did for the toss, which we duly won and inserted.
It then promptly rained again as we went onto the pitch. And continued for the next hour and a quarter as we battled to grip the ball and got soaked. Gene Kelly had nothing on this and we weren't exactly singing.
Flitwick started slowly but then got going and obviously meant business. They sent in players to hit hard and declared after only 30 overs at 182-4. They were going for it.
Off course, the rain stopped at that point, and never started again.
They had a good disciplined bowling attack, more suited to a couple of divisions up and we found it tough going, especially since they decided that sledging wasn't out of order in Div 12. Where's the spirit of cricket there? 1st slip in particular was having a chirp at everybody and didn't stop at youngsters. Whilst Jon Butler-Caddle was going really well at no. 9 on his debut game at the age of 14, slip decided he was fair game too. Shame on him.
We struggled, a couple of players we hoped would come off got out quickly and we were down to battling through for some pride. Peter Drury battled well in determined fashion and had a good partnership with JBC but we wre eventually we were all out for 75.
Flitwick off field were courteous and friendly and the teas were good. Shame about on field.
With nearly all other games cancelled and us scoring zero points, we lost ground in the division, but were pleased to get a game of cricket.
