Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Chiltern 06 on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 3 runs

Match report On the back of two bad losses, we needed to get a result to get going for the season. Losing the toss was not a good start, being inserted.

The batting performance was good from start to finish, with Tim Shilling giving us a solid start with 21 on a slightly damp, but firm, wicket with a slow outfield. Jonny Harvey then picked up the reins with disciplined and classy batting. Pete Dudley supported and supplied the strike and slowly they got on top of the bowling as the wicket and outfield dried out and sped up. Pete was helped with a life when a ball ran back from a shot and hit the base of the stumps without removing the bails, while an 80 run stand was accumulated more and more quickly as the last 10 overs arrived. Jonny reached a richly deserved 50 and then he and Pete were out quickly raising the run rate to let Mike Antonelli take over with a good, urgent and aggressive innings, making 45 in around 8 and a half overs.

Moment of the innings was Mike forcing Andre into an all run 4 and the innings closed on a very good 199. The opposition were left stunned.

In the Chiltern 06 innings, Rajib bowled with discipline and threat and was desperately unlucky not to take a wicket while only conceding 13 runs from his 10 overs before he had to go. At the other end, Craig Shilling was struggling with the first bowl at the club and coping with the slope, but showed that he has threat for the future. We simply didn't seem to want to take our first wicket as 3 or 4 chances went down and eventually the first was taken by Tim Shilling with about 60 on the board and Chiltern up with the run rate. The slogging skipper at the other end was making a cat look inadequate with lives as chance after chance went down and runs were leaking from the non-Rajib and then Campbell end.

But the skipper was eventually sent back and then the wickets started to fall more regularly to Ollie C and it was apparent that the Chiltern batting was running out. Jonny Harvey took 2 wickets in an over to help the cause. But they swung on and it was the reintroduction of a previously struggling Ethan Mackie that swung the game as he took his first wicket and it came down to the last over with 6 runs required and Ethan bowling at the no. 11. A wide and no ball didn't help the nerves, but 3 balls later he uprooted the stumps and celebrations began.

30 points in the bag, well stuck at all.
