Chipperfield v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C on Sun 01 May 2011 at 10am
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 67 runs
Match report
The boys put on a much improved performance this morning but in the end were out-done by some great batting performances.
Result: Chipperfield 138 for 3, Berkhamsted 71 for 9
We won the toss and elected to field. The bowling was much tighter than our first outing earlier in the week and we looked more alert in the field. However, Chipperfield had several very talented batsmen in their ranks and managed to push the score along at a pretty even pace over their 20 overs. Fine bowling from Sam, Dominic and Seb to claim our three wickets, very tidy overs also from Matt (kindly taking on the mantle of captain for the day), Jack and Zac. We were a bit unlucky with a few near misses - Jack so close with a c&b, Matt just missing out with a field catch and Ben, keeping wicket in the heat, just shaving the stumps on more than one ocassion. Fortune though was with Chipperfield and 3 of their batsmen managed to get to retire early on 30.
Having such a big target to reach I asked the boys to be really positive about their running and to look for the quick singles. I was really pleased with the way that they kept at the task despite losing a steady stream of wickets. Matt was unlucky to depart early on despite showing some very good technique. William just fell short with a run out and Seb came up against some very accurate bowling. The ship steadied when Ben took to the field, settling into a good partnership with Jack and scoring a very impressive 20, including one 4. Fours also for Jack, Sam and Dominic. Once Ben was bowled and Robbie lost out to a very alert wicket keeper for a close stumping, it was going to be an uphill struggle but we kept going and each of the remaining batsmen showed some good determination.
