Berkhamsted Cricket Club Sunday XI v Hanwell on Sun 09 Aug 2009 at 13:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Another lost toss from Sherjan - Hanwell to bat first. The zip of Rajib and Christian King proved too much for the Hanwell openers, both departing without troubling the scorers. With the no.4 falling to King's persistently accurate probing, the opposition found themselves knee deep in Berko quicksand. Janaway still on keeping duty, Hanwell's 150+ opportunity looking unlikely. Excellent spells to mention fom both King and Rajib early on. Doug 'stiff back' Foster came to party, which included an opening delivery promptly labelled by Janaway as, "One of the worst balls I have ever seen..."
With the introduction of Herring, the run rate fell further through some excellent off spinning/darts. Hanwell's resistance, however, came in the form of no.5 who took good advantage of some, at times, 'friendly' bowling from the truckers, giving a margin of momentum to the travelling side. Gloves off, enter Janaway. A class apart, Janners predictably quelling any chances of Hanwell reaching further/any acclaim with the bat, passing the outside edge most deliveries. Consecutive overs saw both Sherjan and Herring (purposefully) put down sharp chances at slip to deny the club strike bowler of wickets. Janaway - 6 overs - 3 maidens - 0 wickets for 6 runs. A good spell from Jordan Harrison added more dark clouds to the Hanwell horizon and a special mention to Max Jones who bowled with confidence, pace and accuracy, deserving a wicket or two more. Close, Berkhamsted - 158 for victory.
The dynamic opening duo of Sherjan and Foster took to the crease with confidence. A quick single too many, however, and a direct hit saw Foster fall marginally short of his ground, Berkhamsted 24-1. Sherjan continued, gratefully dispatching anything loose despite being given a lifeline early. Without too much to trouble the truckers, runs came consistently with Sherjan reaching 94 and Christian King supporting competently with 28 not out. A well deserved win for the home side with particular thanks to Janaway for his attendance.
Next week away to Welwyn against 2nd/top table opposition.
