Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A v Tring Park on Thu 30 Apr 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 9 wickets
Match report
Berkhamsted got their season underway with a win against local rivals Tring Park, but it was a close fought game that was in the balance for much of the evening.
Despite losing an early wicket to a very quick delivery from Charlie Mack, Tring started their innings confidently and in some style, with Adam P and James F scoring at over five an over in the early stages. Berko were struggling to find line and length, but the partnership was undone by George Lewarne who bowled James with a cracking leg break, leaving Tring 51 for 2 at the halfway stage. With support from James G, Adam P continued to play some excellent shots and retired unbeaten on 31. At that stage Tring looked set to post a total in excess of 100, but some much tighter bowling and wickets from Ted Stanford, Harvey Lewis and Oli Holdroyd restricted them to 93 for 5 – still a very respectable score.
Needing just under 5 an over to win, Berkhamsted started slowly; the two Charlies - Mack and Nicholls - pegged back by some lively, accurate bowling from Adam P and James G. But gradually the opening pair started to get on top, pushing the score on with several boundaries and well run singles, before Charlie Nicholls top-edged a ball from Max to Tom, who took a good catch. Ted Stanford came to the wicket and, after taking a couple of overs to get his eye in, started to cut loose with three big sixes and a couple of fours on his way to an unbeaten score of 33. Charlie Mack made a very impressive 32 not out in Berko’s winning total of 97 for 1. An enjoyable game with moments of real quality, but both sides gave away too many extras so there’s plenty to work on before the next match!
