Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red v Redbourn on Fri 10 Jul 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 10 runs
Match report
The final league game saw a fairly even contest between two enthusiastic sides. BCC won the toss and opted to bat first and started brightly with Allen and O’Gorman putting on 19 for the loss of one wicket. Redbourn then began to take control and restricted BCC’s next pair to a mere 9 and taking another wicket. Weller then began to put the pressure back on Redbourn with a fine innings including 9 off one over. However the Redbourn bowlers stuck to their task and with some good bowling and poor running between the wickets, pegged BCC back with another 2 wickets. It was then left to Munday and Ashburner to pick up the pace and after a shaky start, the pair put on 27 which helped BCC towards a total of 271 for 4.
Throughout the season the BCC bowling has gone from strength to strength and today they continued to bowl a sensible line, length and pace and it soon began to pay dividends, with Munday and Nittur picking up a wicket a piece to keep Redbourn down to 228 for 2 at the halfway stage. Redbourn then began to fight back and with BCC missing some simple run out opportunities pushed the score onto 251 with just the last pair remaining. So all set for a tense finish but Weller and Meacock handled the pressure and bowled superbly, giving nothing away and restricting Redbourn’s last batsmen to just 10 runs leaving them 10 runs short of the BCC total.
A wonderful way for the BCC boys to end the league season - finishing third place in a very competitive league.
