Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red v Boxmoor on Mon 22 Jun 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 4 runs
Match report
The return match against Boxmoor was a much closer affair and this was in part due to a vastly improved batting performance by the Boxmoor boys. BCC won the toss and opted to put Boxmoor in and it may have proved to be a costly decision as the opening pair put on 27 without loss followed by a solid 14 by the second pair for the loss of just one wicket. Boxmoor continued to punish any leg-side bowling with a number of 4s being hit. However at last the BCC attack started to fire, inspired by a fine caught and bowled by O’Gorman. Nittur was also putting the pressure on at the other end and picked up 2 more wickets in two balls to leave Boxmoor at 264 for 5. A real battle then ensured between the last Boxmoor pair and Ashburner and Alderson bowling for BCC. Some aggressive batting from Pimm and a final wicket for Alderson, a brilliant catch by Nittur at extra cover, left Boxmoor on 264-6.
BCC’s response was somewhat laboured and Boxmoor pegged BCC back to just 208-1 after the 1st pair. Then BCC started to eat away at Boxmoor’s lead with Allen and Newton putting on 18 as did Reynolds and Nittur. The final pairing of Ashburner and Ormerod then played sensibly to chip away the last few runs, keeping some darting balls from Cavanagh at bay, and to scrape over the line by a mere 4 runs.
A tense finish and another great game.
