Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red v Tring Park 1 on Mon 08 Jun 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Tring Park won by 49 runs
Match report
Despite the margin of victory in the end, for most of the match this was quite a closely fought contest and it was encouraging to see good, energetic cricket from all the boys.
Tring won the toss and opted to bat and BCC produced one of their best bowling performances of the season to keep Tring restricted to just 221 with the last pair remaining - wickets being shared across most of the team. However Darraugh (Tring) then set about a ferocious attack in the last 2 overs and, despite some accurate line and length from Alderson and Allen, scored 32 (helped in part by some woeful fielding)!
From 221 for 4 with 4 overs remaining, Tring therefore managed to post a reasonable but achievable 260 for 5.
BCC should have had their tails up and been confident that this was a game they could win, but alas it was not a day to savour the batting. Poor shot selection and a determination to punish good deliveries lost us too many wickets and combined with some hesitant running, it became clear that within 8 overs that victory was to be out of reach.
We’ll take heart though from a good bowling display and with more focus in the field and with the bat BCC will bounce back to record another win soon enough.
