Redbourn v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red on Sun 31 May 2009 at 10.30am
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Redbourn won by 36 runs
Match report
On a gorgeous sunny morning at Redbourn's ground our Under 9s battled well but slipped to a defeat against a very good team. Berko had 3 players making their debut and with a strongish breeze blowing down the pitch it made bowling quite tricky. Redbourn batted first and hit some cracking shots - our fielding wasnt quite up to the mark and we missed several easy run out opportunities. We had to wait until the 14th over for our first wicket when William Newton bowled out one of the batsmen. Then captain Charlie Ormerod did a quick run out and in the final over Jacob Ashburner took an excellent caught & bowled. Redbourn had posted a good score of 300-3.
Chasing such a big total, we needed a fast start but unfortunately our first 2 pairings only scored 11 and 10 respectively in the first 8 overs. Charlie Mann hit some great shots, 3 fours and one massive six but he somewhat undid his great work by being out three times, although the last time was a quite brilliant catch on the boundary as he strived for another six. Our last 2 pairings then did really well - remaining unbeaten until the end of the game. First William and Jacob scored 18 and then Charlie O and Rohan Nittur scored 25. All 4 of the boys batted sensibly, called clearly and ran quickly - well done. Our final score was 264 - just 36 runs short, a very creditable performance. Louie, Nathan and Joe all did very well in their first competitive match and will have learnt a lot from the experience.
