Boxmoor v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 9 Red on Fri 08 May 2009 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 19 runs
Match report
Last Friday saw the U9s post their first win of the season with a fantastic performance against a good Boxmoor side. Jacob Ashburner won the toss and opted to bat, hoping to post a big score for Boxmoor to chase. However some tight bowling from the opposition saw Berkhamsted lose 2 wickets in the first two overs and it was a spirited fight back by Tobias Munday hitting 8 off the next over followed by a few neat singles that saw BCC begin to take control. A strong partnership of 21 (Alfie Jones and Toby O’Gorman) then saw BCC extend their score and the momentum continued for the next few overs until 2 quick wickets saw our score pegged back. A final flourish of the bat by Louie Allen and Jacob Ashburner saw us past 260 and reach a creditable 264 for 5.
The big difference between our first game and this match was the improved standard in the field. A well placed field and everyone on their toes kept Boxmoor in their crease and unable to even score singles. Our opening bowlers (both starting their first game for the team) Tom Lewis and Alfie Jones restricted the Boxmoor openers to a mere 14 and this continued with the next pair of Cameron Conroy and Tobias Munday, limiting their opposition to only a further handful of runs. Boxmoor then began to find the gaps in the field but BCC responded and took three wickets in three balls (a team hattrick?) – a cracking caught and bowled effort by Toby O’Gorman followed by James Weller clean bowling two batsmen with his first two deliveries of the next over. James was a mere whisker away of making it three in three himself!! This really put us back on top and with Louie Allen taking a final wicket it was just down for the boys to see out the final overs in the manner in which they started – accurate bowling and nimble fielding. Well done!!
