Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Boxmoor III on Sat 03 Jul 2021 at 12pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
The eye test on the very green wicket caused Pete to elect to bowl first with a lightning fast opening pair of Jamie and Tom. Jamie struggled to find any kind of quality in his opening spell, more than made up for however by a solid few overs from Tom. As often happens though, Jamie picked up the lions share of the wickets in the early overs, dispatching of boxmoors opening pair with limited damage dealt. This was followed by a steady fall of wickets, a mixture of outstanding and incredibly average fielding, the latter courtesy of the aforementioned Jamie and some below average fielding in the slips by an unnamed individual. Overall a decent time of it in the field, helped by a largely consistent bowling attack in the middle overs of Brad, Jake and Hannah.
Berko’s turn to bat and the early dismissal of the usually more than reliable Jacob had some fearing that this wasn’t going to be as easy as expected. However a steady partnership between Brad and Slater soon righted the ship before Jamie showed his frustration over a lack of boundaries by playing a shot that no one ever wants to see again. Some questionable batting from Dale and Brad soon saw the innings come to a close, despite the best efforts of both to “let others have a bat.”
Great win for a team who remain unbeaten and showed that perhaps the 3s had turned over a new leaf from seasons past, where a run chase of 113 would have perhaps been too much to ask.
