Sawbridgeworth v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 10 Red on Mon 21 Jul 2008 at 6pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 10 runs
Match report
In a very tense finish Berko Under 10s came out on top of a thrilling quarter final match against Sawbridgeworth. Berko won the toss and put the home side into bat. Our boys were really up for the game and Ollie Holdroyd ran out their opening batsman with a great throw. Then Jonathan Butler-Caddle picked up 3 wickets in 2 overs with good straight bowling. Our Under 9 player, Eddie Duncombe also took a wicket, as did Harvey Lewis. When Harry Ormerod picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls the game looked to be in the bag but a very nervous 10 ball over from Ollie gave Sawbridgeworth a sniff of a chance. Berkos ground fielding and throwing was tremendous throughout, limiting the home team to just 202.
Berkos batting started with a flourish, with skipper Jack Filer and Harvey Lewis putting on a partnership of 20. Thereafter the runs dried up against accurate bowling and a crazy run out followed by a couple of good catches put the opposition back in the hunt. The last partnership could only be described as mental torture as the large crowd sensed a home victory. 2 more wickets fell and going into the last over, a wicket for the home team would have given them victory. The crowd fell completely silent as Ollie bravely played a dead bat to 5 balls in a row. The last ball whistled past the stumps for 4 byes and Berko were victorious!
This was a very sporting game and Sawbridgeworth were very welcoming hosts, even plying our enthusiastic supporters with free Pimms in the warm evening sunshine. A great victory for Berko and we now go forward to Finals Day at Knebworth full of confidence.
