Berkhamsted Cricket Club U13 Girls 1 v Abbots Langley U11 Girls on Thu 10 Jul 2008 at 6.00pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 41 Runs

Match report Berkhamsted wins first ever Girls match

Abbots Langley batted first and scored 241, despite some excellent bowling from Hariette Holderness who took 3 wickets and Abi Lawler who took two in two balls and Kayla Lennox who also took two wickets. The girls remained very focused in the field and took two excellent catches (Hariette and Sophie Beard caught and bowled). Next time, we will be watching out for overthrows and guarding both wickets when the batters are running.

When Berko batted, we faced a real mix of experienced and novice bowling. Top partnerships came from Katie Brown and Charlotte Towler (24), Sarah Harris and Kayla Lennox (25) and Sarah (again!) with Sophie Beard, who scored 19 our of their partnership of 25. The girls quickly learnt the importance of calling decisively after escaping some near run outs.

More important than the result was the excellent spirit in which the game was played and that everyone enjoyed their cricket during a rare break in this week's deluge of rain. Thanks to Abbots for coming over with a well matched side to be our first opposition.
