Amersham v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C on Thu 07 Aug 2008 at 2.00pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Amersham won by 1 wicket
Match report
Amersham gained their revenge for last weeks defeat in another very close contest played at the excellent (and sunny) Shardeloes ground. In this 30 over match Berko batted first but after a week of rain the outfield was very slow and boundaries were hard to come by. Openers Roberts and Alexander got off to a steady start but both perished chasing quicker runs. Only Will Holderness with 23 and Theo Freedman with a stylish 22 looked to be in form and Berko struggled along to finish on 124.
Both teams were allowed to field an extra player and Berkos guest for the day was Sammy Holderness who opens the bowling for Bordeaux in France! Sammy got up some real pace and combined with Josh Roberts and some excellent ground fielding from Berko they soon reduced Amersham to 11 for 3. However, Amershams opener Turney was a really classy bat and a string of boundaries soon got the home team back on track. The game tilted back Berkos way with both James Sidwell and Matt Hopkins picking up 2 wickets apiece. Joseph Atkins also took a superb catch and ran out another player. When Turney had to retire on 51 after a towering six into the nearby river Berko smelt victory however the final pair played really well and adding 20 for the last wicket scraped home with just 2 balls to spare for a narrow victory.
