Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12C v Amersham on Thu 31 Jul 2008 at 530pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won Berkhamsted won by 5 wickets
Match report
Following a bowling and fielding display which our boys themselves described as "rubbish" our Under 12s embarked on an excellent run chase which saw them defeat Amersham by 5 wickets in a close finish. This friendly proved to be a very entertaining match with Amersham batting first and their 2 openers Lloyd and Lansdowne really going for their shots against wayward bowling from the home team. Catches went down, overthrows, byes and wides were strewn around as Berko looked a shadow of the side that were undefeated in the league. Few bowlers emerged with credit although Joseph Atkins with 1 for 9 off 3 overs and Calum Alexander with 1 for 6 at least kept it straight and got some reward.
Our batting, on a damp slow outfield was beautifully paced, openers Ethan Mackie and Theo Freedman running intelligently and keeping the scoreboard ticking. Ethan retired on 31, hitting 3 boundaries but then the innings stuttered with 3 wickets falling. Theo just kept taking the singles and found a good partner in skipper Ed Butler-Caddle who played some glorious cover drives on the way to a quickfire 25. Berko needed 10 to win off the last 2 overs and smart batting by Calum Alexander and Theo saw us home with 3 balls to spare, Theo hitting a 4 to finish on 31 not out, a match winning innings. We have a return match at Amersham next week which promises to be equally close.
