Match report The last match of the season went according to plan. Dave won the toss and elected to bat on a track that looked like it had been air dropped in from Colombo. A lack of any grass meant it could only break up later but the oppo skipper said he would have bowled so was Dave missing something. Dave & Jacob got off to a safe but slow start with no pace in the wicket to attack. Dixon claimed 4 wickets in 5 overs to rip the heart out of the top order but Oli (21) and Tim (32*) laid a platform and get the total up to the 140 the skipper demanded for 5 bonus points which would cement 5th spot in the league.

The plan after tea was simple. Take pace off the ball, bowl straight and let the pitch do the work. OC clearly wasn't listening and went for 10 in the first over thanks to 2 wide full tosses which were smacked for four. However, after that the Jess and OC went for just 1 run in the next 6 overs and with pressure on the wickets started to fall. Jess (3-9) and OC (2-20) took 5-19 after that first over to put a stranglehold on the game with some solid catches from Jacob, Oli and Jake. Dipesh struggled with an injury but the spin twins Jake (3-27) and Daniel (2-27) wrapped up the innings with 4 overs to spare.

A good team effort on a difficult cricket wicket. The importance of setting a total that reflects the pitch was key throughout and Tim showed his experience by chipping away. The bowlers, as has been the case for most of the season, showed patience and accuracy to put the pressure on the opposition. Jake deserved his Player of the Year award for his 27 wickets, but OC and Jess in particular, plus Oli & Dipesh contributed in big games to end with 6 wins in the second half of the season.
