Totteridge Millhillians IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 17 runs
Match report
Mark took over skippering duties with Dave succumbing to the 3rd XI injury of choice (calf strain) and was immediately under the pump. Niloy dislocated his finger in the first over and disappeared off to hospital and did not return. Luckily Daniel was able to take over the gloves but this limited the bowling options. Toby then pulled a hamstring and could only bowl 3 overs and stand at slip. So, 5 overs in and Mark was down to 9.5 fielders. Mark and Vinit made breakthroughs and James came on to bowl a tight spell and pick up a couple of wickets. Dipesh then snaffled a couple including Toby picking up a deflection off Daniels diving attempt and also threw down the stumps with a direct hit from mid off. Keeping the oppo to 174 with the early problems seemed like a good effort.
Matt (47) and James (19) then put on 60 for the first wicket before James bizarrely missed a high full toss. Daniel and Steve came and went and then Matt was over ambitious in trying to get to his 50. The developments XI's top run scorer Oscar hung around whilst Mark (9) and Vinit (15) looked to push the score along. The run rate was always around 5 an over and with no Niloy and wickets in short supply ticking over singles was the way to go but the pressure built and when Toby was out Berko still needed 20 off 4. Oscar looked to up the tempo and perished chipping one back to the bowler.
The home side caught brilliantly which is something Berko haven't managed to come close to all season. With a full complement of fielders and the extra batter then things may have been different but in the last 4 weeks there have been losses by 5 runs, 2 wickets and now 17 runs. Close games but we need to find a way to win!
