Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 11 A v Redbourn on Thu 22 May 2008 at 6:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Redbourne won by 7 wickets
Match report
Against the best team we have faced to date the Boys played the best they have all season. The urgency in running singles and two's impressed as did the calling. In the 16th over with 6 wickets in hand we tried to accelerate the run rate by hitting out. The result was that wickets fell but we scored 25 runs in the last 4 overs. The backing up and fielding was excellent as was the bowling.
Against a very sharp bowling attack Casey O Gorman scored a quick 10 including 2 *4’s,, Peter McCall scored 14 inluding 2*4’s and Daniel Angel scored 12 not out including 2* 4’s. Both Ben Shelly and Charlie Mack ran quickly and ably supported their dominant partners. While James Insch and Jack Hodkinson were run out they ran risky singles in the 19th over to try and push the run rate for the team.
Casey and Charlie opened the bowling and were impressive when in the third over Charlie bowled Hales for 2. Casey had two difficult caught and bowled chances and Jack created two good chances however no wicket fell. Our fielding and backing up were good. K Suter the pick of their batsmen scored 30 runs. He hit 5*4s before he retired in the 12th over with the score on 63. At this stage Peter as captain brought up the field as Redbourne only needed 14 runs off 8 overs and had 7 wicket in hand. This move slowed the run rate and we nearly effected a run out. Daniel Angel in his first over took a wicket LBW and spun the ball to bamboozle the opposition. Redbourne took 5 overs to score the 14 runs and the game finished in the 17th over with a four from Dixon
Peter's captaincy was excellent. He made sure that all the boys had a bowl and his reading of the game showed maturity. He encouraged all his team mates and led by example. On the day Redbourne with their 5 representative players were too good and deserved their win. But our boys showed spirit and determination and didn’t let Redbourne over power them at any stage.
The boys were a credit to both Clubs
