Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI v Redbourn IV on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 1pm - limited overs (40)
Match was Tied

Match report A Castle Hill Classic on a scorching Saturday... The toss was lost and Berkhamsted were told to field by the opposition. A surprise considering they were not wanting to field in the heat later on.

The bowling... It must be said that this was a wonderful batting track, with not a single demon for the seam bowlers to take advantage of. Dharmin and Tom opened with finding some good lines that would have picked-up more than a wicket had the fielders taken all of their catches. Credit where its due, the slip cordon did a great job for Dharmin, with three out of four catches being taken (a slo-mo forward dive from Sir Putman at gully and a fabulous left-handed take from John). Four wickets down for under fifty runs and JJ came into the attack. Jake bowled found the form that brought him 25 wickets last season with flight and variation bringing him two good wickets. Jess unfortunately couldn't find her length against a very unforgiving batsman, however did pick-up a wicket later on. The fielding as a whole was good, however the seniors outshone all but Jake in the field, with youth attempting one-handed pick-ups and giving twos rather than a single with a long barrier. Having been 130-8 the opposition were all out for an unacceptable 195.

The batting... An exemplary start by club legends Chrispin Snr and John Neal meant that the run rate at the tenth over was at 7/over! Dave hitting some particularly delightful drives that made light work of some tidy bowling by the opposition. Dave went on to hit a commendable 67. The run rate however took the mother of all nose-dives upon Dave and John got out, with batsmen taking far too few risks in the middle overs. In came Matt Dale who with Dharmin put on a 57 run partnership in 8 overs, both having not batted for two weeks were a little rusty but put away the bad balls. Twenty off two... Six off the final... Dharmin run out off the third ball... Two required off the final ball... One run completed, the final half a length short! MATCH TIED!

An outstanding effort by all with the ball in the heat, with the running between the wickets. However, the batting was the shortfall. Sure the opposition could have been all out for 130, but on this batting track, Berkhamsted CC should be chasing down 200+. A wonderful match for all playing and spectators present, with plenty for the skipper to work on for next weekend. The Fours go forth in the league.
