West Herts IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 03 Jun 2017 at 1pm - limited overs (40)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won by 53 runs
Match report
To start with, this match had all the makings of a classic "why do we do this every weekend?" Of course we lost the toss and were inserted into bat on what could only be described as a minefield.
The batting... Skipper chose the talented Todd duo (Josh and Ollie). Josh got out early to a somewhat dubious caught behind ("it went a foot above the bat"). In came dynamic Dale, who with the un-phased Ollie Todd put together a 50-run partnership to start building a competitive target. Credit where it's due, even with some stupid half-trackers by the oppo, Ollie dealt with the opening bowlers with maturity beyond his years. Matt delivered the axe with hefty blows after taking a knock in the neck. Pete and James made sure the middle-order and tail wagged aggressively with Jess, who along with "almost killing" James by making him run a three, really tired the oppo out with great running the wickets. We finished on 143, which we felt content with considering the pitch conditions, however Ross' "that's playing easier than it was earlier" didn't fill me with too much confidence...
The bowling... Well last week we bowled 33 extras including 18 wides! This week we bowled a match-winning 6 extras including 5 wides! Camryn and Dharmin found their targets effectively and economically as opening bowlers should. The batsmen were running scared with line and length bowling picking-up wickets you don't normally see in fours cricket (only one batsman actually got himself out and we had Pete "Superman" Drury flying for a couple of stunning caught-behind). Dharmin was on a hat trick fifer ball, but was sadly dropped (retribution for last week's drop he says). On came JJ (Jess and Jake), who continued the onslaught with little resistance once Jess out-thought the only real resistance they received all afternoon. Will Currie, after saving at least 30 runs on the leg-glance came on to take the Fours home with a final wicket with spin.
