Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI v Knebworth Park II on Sat 09 Jun 2007 at 1:30

Match report
Another Beautiful and it was back to winning ways for regarding the toss. With a slightly weaker side due to the public school boys back at work! We decided to have a bat first for the first time all year!
The a beauty of a pitch we were generally behind the rate early on due to some good bowling especially by the impressive Simpson (13-4-15-0) After 19 overs we had crawled to 44-1. With a hefty run filled middle order we thought we had the ability to add big runs at the end but it never clicked with Bray 41 and Janaway 33 both having top starts but not converting and at 163-4 it didn't help with Herring being run out for 0 then Langley (53) and Mike smith falling in quick succession.
Tom Warren 10* and Stu Hardy 8* they teased us to get us to 199-7 leaving us 1 run away from maximum batting points. Generally feeling we were about 30 runs under par with a strong Knebworth batting line up in good run scoring form.
Knebwoth started well looking at ease and raced to 70-1 in no time. The introduction of the slow bowling of herring who weaselled out Sergeant 27 and then the dangerous Turner for 4 we thought we could break them down But with wickets not coming regularly until the 37 over Knebworth were happy to start looking for the draw but a great spell of 3-27 from Bray had other ideas.
With 2 overs to go Janaway broke through trapping Steadman Leg before leaving 6 balls to take the allusive last wicket. Sadly they hung on and ended on 169-9 leaving us 1 wicket short and sadly dropping 13 points!
A winning draw in which we deserved more with good bowling from Bray 14-2-60-3 Herring 9-2-32-2 and Janaway 18-2-53-2
Another home game next week vs. Radlett in which we hope to get back on to winning ways!
