Northchurch v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 19 May 2007 at 1:30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won
Match report
Berkhamsted won a tight game away to local side Northchurch to continue their move up the table. Captain Herring again won the toss and elected to field. Janaway opened the bowling with new recruit Leon Roberts but Northchurch got off to a solid start. However, Janaway got the first wicket when Dave Pearce edged behind to Tim Sims. A good partnership between Cox and Gorrie held the away side up but both fell in quick sucession, with Leon Roberts picking up his first wicket for the club.
Doug Foster, making his first team bow, also took a wicket when he bowled Northchurch captain Mark Hobley. Berkhamsted were looking at chasing a low target but Adam Hayes and Ali Fantham batted very well as Northcurch eventually made 160 for 8 from their maximum 53 overs. It was another excellent bowling performance from Berkhamsted with the openers Janaway and Roberts well supported by Herring and Foster. Ali Bray and Ben Hughes were not even called upon.
Opening the innings, Ben Hughes did not last long and Doug Foster joined Seagrave at the wicket. The pair provided the solid base required for the chase but both were bowled for 26 by Tom Vila. After the loss of Herring for 4, last weeks heroes Janaway and Bray came together and this time they won the match with the bat calmy knocking off the runs. Berkhamsted winning by six wickets with three overs in hand.
