Welwyn Garden City II v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 02 Jun 2007 at 1:30
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Won
Match report
On one of the hottest Saturdays this year to date the run of winning tosses came to a bitter end and we were put in to the field, the only upside of this was out ability to chase all year has been excellent.
Welwyn started slowly and after 24 overs they had only mustered 57 runs, yet we had only 1 breakthrough.
With the pitch offering no pace or bounce boundaries were a rare thing and Welwyn could only get 3 in their whole innings. Our fielding and bowling was a top standard throughout the 53 overs, a vast improvement from our last game!
The opposition could only score a restricted 142-7 in 53 overs mainly thanks to tom Biddles 16-3-44-4 and Janaways 15 overs only costing 24.
In our reply we got off to much the same start finding early boundaries hard to come by and with a tight fielding side and good bowling runs were hard to come by. At 57-4 after 22 overs 144 seemed a long way off. Herring and Parker Jones came to the crease to add 40 runs before Herring was caught behind for 26. Janerway came to the crease and scored with ease at a run a ball but was losing partners at the other end Parker-Jones (20) was unlucky with a horrid bounce then Foster and Bart Smith were out in quick succession leaving Biddle coming in at 10 with 10 needed.
Biddle chanced his arm and smeared it through the off side and Janaway pushed the gaps with ease leaving us deserved winners by 2 wickets with 5 overs to spare! Another 30 points leaving us in a clear 2 place in the table.
